Compact discs became a familiar home for finished mixes, production audio, documents and computer files. Many archives still hold recordings and data on discs that are awkward to access or no longer read reliably.

We transfer audio CDs and recover accessible files from data discs. If a disc skips, struggles to mount or was created for an older computer, tell us what happens and we’ll assess the best way forward.

Audio and data. Pressed and recordable.

CD-DA

Standard audio CDs. We extract the recorded audio at its native 44.1 kHz, 16-bit resolution.

CD-ROM

Pressed data discs holding computer files, software or other digital material.

CD-R

Write-once recordable discs, used for both audio recordings and computer data.

CD-RW

Rewritable discs containing audio or data, assessed for readability and compatibility.

When a disc
won’t cooperate.

A disc that fails in one player or computer may still contain recoverable material. We assess unreadable sectors, playback problems and older disc formats, then discuss any specialist recovery work and its cost before proceeding.

Recovering a file and opening it in modern software are separate tasks. A successful copy of an old project may still need its original application, or a further conversion. Tell us which computer or software created the disc if you know.

We preserve the source audio’s native sample rate and bit depth where appropriate. Increasing those numbers does not restore information missing from the recording.

Damaged discs and legacy formats requiring additional work are quoted after assessment. Recovery depends on the disc’s condition; not all content can be recovered.

Files you can use.
Delivery that fits.

Audio transfers include WAV files plus MP3 listening copies, delivered by digital download. Broadcast WAV and specific metadata requirements can be agreed for an archive or production workflow.

Data discs are delivered as the recovered files or an agreed disc image. Online delivery is included. An appropriately sized USB drive is £8 delivered; a physical audio CD listening copy is £3 posted.

Audio CD listening copies apply to audio recordings. Data files and larger collections are better suited to online or USB delivery. Return of your original discs is a separate, quoted cost.
