Experience with
the original source.
Audio preservation for production, broadcast and music archives. Established in 2018.
Recordings with
a working life.
We work with the recordings behind programmes, productions and releases: the original audio from a shoot, a music session, a television theme tune or a master that has spent years in an archive.
Since 2018, we’ve transferred and restored material for major broadcasters, companies, composers, rights holders and private clients. Our work has included projects for British Airways (BA) and IMG, alongside individual collections and recordings that survive in only one place.
That experience shapes how we approach each job. The aim is to recover the source carefully and deliver it in a form that can be heard, assessed and put back to work.

From the archive
to the next project.
We’ve worked on restoring television theme tunes, recovering original audio from shoots and transferring music sessions. These recordings can become sources for a remaster, a reissue, a new edit or a better understanding of what an archive contains.
Sometimes the brief is precise. Sometimes the first task is finding out what is on a tape. We work with you to understand what needs to be preserved, how the files will be used and which delivery format suits the project.
Our core specialisms are MiniDisc and DAT, alongside audio and data CD transfer. Unreliable media and older computer formats are assessed individually, with any additional work discussed before proceeding.

Why Polar?
The name comes from polarity and magnetic recording. It connects us to the physical media that holds so much recorded sound, and to the process of making that sound accessible again.
We’re a small, UK-based service. You can speak directly to the person handling your media, explain the history behind it and agree the detail of the transfer. Careful handling and a faithful source transfer sit at the centre of the work.

“Job done as requested, perfectly. I was sent a link to download the transferred DAT and now listen to it and re-master it for the first time in 32 years!”
